World Cup 2019: Indian openers and fast bowlers did great performance in the group stage
Jaspreet Bumrah holds the record for most wickets with 17 wickets in third place
In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, the Indian cricket team has qualified for the semifinals by staying at the top of the points table. There is no mention of any one or two players in this, the performance of many Team India players has been remarkable. From the opening pair of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Lokesh Rahul, Indian fast trio Jaspreet Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar have made a big contribution.
Openers in the league stage have scored seven centuries
The league phase has been plenty of Indian openers. The opening pair has scored the highest number of seven hundred in the current edition, while India’s team plays two more matches if they play the final. In this sense, this figure can go up further.
Team India opener Rohit Sharma has become the first batsman to do so by putting five hundred in eight matches so far. Before that, the record of four centuries in the World Cup was Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara. He had scored four hundred in the World Cup. Rohit Sharma has scored 647 runs in the World Cup so far and he has reached close to breaking the record of most runs. Only Sachin Tendulkar (673) and Matthew Hayden (659) are above them. He is just 26 runs behind Sachin Tendulkar, who holds the record for most runs in the World Cup. In addition to Rohit’s five-century, Shikhar Dhawan has scored one century in the opening batsmen, while Sill Rahul, who has scored one century as the opener, has played in the opener after Shikhar Dhawan’s injury. KL Rahul has scored 360 runs in eight matches at an average of 51.43. During this period he has imposed a century and two half-centuries. Apart from these, Indian captain, Virat Kohli is also in great form. He has scored 442 runs in eight matches at an average of 63.14. Virat has consistently scored five half-centuries.
Bowlers too did a great performance
If you talk about bowlers, then Indian pacer Tse Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have done a fantastic job in this World Cup. Although Australia’s Mitchell Starc is at the top with 26 wickets in this list, Jaspreet Bumrah did not only get wickets, but his economy and average were also excellent. He is the third highest wicket-taker in the eight matches with 17 wickets. Apart from this, Mohammed Shami has made a place in the Top-10 with 14 wickets in just 4 matches. Bumrah’s economy is only 4.49 and the average 19.53 wickets have been drawn. Mohammed Shami has taken hat-tricks in this tournament.
